This time he and Richard Rodgers called the song "Blue Moon."

I guess this is as good a time as any to explain why both Rodgers and Robbins -- and millions of people since, including The Beatles -- have found the song so appealing. It uses a chord progression that has been recycled in literally thousands of other songs. The chord progression, second only to the 12-bar blues progression in popularity, has a name. Actually it has several names (plus variations on these names):

1. The doo-wop progression
2. The '50s [sic] chords
3. The ice cream chords
4. Those magic changes

The progression, represented in Roman numeral analysis, is I–vi–IV–V.

For example, in C major: C–Am–F–G.

This chord progression was quickly reused in other songs, including

James F. Hanley's "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart," sung by Judy Garland, The Coasters, The Move and The Trammps and,
in the I–vi–IV–V variant by Frank Loesser and Hoagy Carmichael, "Heart and Soul," which has been done by everyone from Jan & Dean to Chris Montez -- and every kid who ever wanted to play the piano.

The progression and its variant are also heard in many other songs.

The Beatles used it at least five times:

"Please Mr. Postman" (originally by The Marvelettes) 1963 I–vi–IV–V
"This Boy" 1963 I–vi–ii–V,
"Tell Me Why" 1964 I–vi–IV–V,
"Happiness Is a Warm Gun" 1968 I–vi–IV–V,
"Octopus's Garden" 1969 I–vi–IV–V,

and then John Lennon used it in his cover of Ben E. King's: "Stand by Me" I–vi–IV–V in 1975.

Here's just a tiny fraction of all the other songs that use it:
